What are some ways to improve gas mileage?

Please don't perceive me to drive slower...I want to know any improvements or modifications I can make to my car to actually improve it's gas mileage.

untroubled.
make sure your tires are at the manufacturers recommended pressures. typically anywhere from 34 to 40 psi works thin.
freeflowing muffler/exhaust.
cold air intake/ K&N filter in stock airbox if no CAI.
accelerate slower. not ram slower.
dont go over 68mph. gas mileage decreases over that speed.
make sure your car is in good maintenance. phoney oils in the engine reduces drag, increases horsepower and will also get you better gas mileage. usual things to inspect is air filter/fuel filter/spark plugs/wires ect.
dont use your A/C when you can. if your gonna sail with the windows down when its hot, just use the a/c. the drag from the wind slows your car down just as much if not more as using a/c so it doesnt difficulty either way. use one or the other or for maximum gas mileage just roll with the windows up, a/c off.
and finally, cooler thermostat. cooler engines use less nutriment and also run better.

How to improve gas mileage?

I have a 2001 Ford Taurus. It gets around 25 mpg last occasion I checked. I drive about 75 miles to the city once or twice a month to visit one's own flesh. How can I improve my gas mileage without shelling out a lot of money?

A few vital things can be done.

1.) Make sure your air filter is clean and free of dust, dirt, and resoluteness. Replace every 15,000 miles or when necessary. If you have a few extra bucks, you should buy a K&N filter. It will improve performance and mileage, never has to be replaced, and goes 50,000 miles before cleaning is needed. Also, since K&N is cotton and proper air filters are made from paper, it could help conserve resources.

2.) Ensure that your tires are properly conceited to the specified amount in your manual. Under-inflated tires increase rolling resistance, thus requiring more endeavour on the engine's part. Under-inflation also increases the risk of a blowout. Also, shed unnecessary weight if you have a lot of litter.

3.) Air conditioning should be used during highway driving, since driving with the windows open at highway speeds increases shuffle, thus decreasing mileage. If you are driving on the streets, shut off the A/C and open your windows if the heat is bearable.

4.) Metamorphosis your oil every 3000 miles, and transmission fluid every 50,000. Old oil becomes thick and makes the moving parts effort harder, and it places more wear on the engine. Make sure that your spark plugs are suitably gapped.

5.) Unless necessary, be easy on the throttle and refrain from jack-rabbit starts. Also, as the guy before me said, do NOT seashore in Neutral unless you are stopping completely, mainly for the reason that if you shift back into Drive while still in gesticulation, you can damage the transaxle.

6.) Avoid extensive idling. If you are going to be stopped for more than 2 minutes, seclude the engine off. Also, don't use those fuel additives that promise better mileage. They don't work.

7.) Lastly, only use the recommended incitement for your car. If it is made for 87 octane (regular), only use that and don't get it used to higher grades. Silver and premium are meant for prodigal-performance engines, and it could make your engine run a little hotter.

How can I improve city gas mileage on my ford f150?

I have a f150 four wheel enterprise with 5.4, I'm averaging 7-10 miles per gallon in town, but approx.16 mph on trips?? That's a monumental difference.
I've replaced the air filter, fuel filter, and plugs no help at all. I have 17inch all territory tires, would that make a huge difference, in fuel efficiency compared to regular byway someone's cup of tea tires? Happily give 10 pts. for suggestions I have not thought of to improve gas mileage, please help.

There is not much you can do to improve municipality mileage since driving in the city involves stop and go traffic. Idling at a stop light equals zero MPG. Turning off the appliance at long delays in town will help, but there is really nothing else you can do to improve city MPG. My Dodge Ram Truck with a 318 machine only gets around 12 MPG on the expressway.

Cheaper miles per gallon

With oil prices spacy, consumers are feeling the impact rising gas prices have  on their wallets.  Since desperate changes such as buying a more fuel efficient car, driving less often, or carpooling aren't realistic options for many, here are four cosy gas saving tips for all drivers--regardless of the vehicle.

1.  Drive like you'd desire your teenage daughter to drive.

Or better yet, how you'd want her sixteen year old boyfriend to effort with her in the car.  That means driving the speed limit and anticipating traffic patterns to dodge sudden stops and aggressive take offs.  According to the Federal Trade Commission, unpolluted driving can improve gas mileage by nearly 5%.   The FTC reports on their website that "gas mileage decreases briskly at speeds above 60 mph." It pays to take your time.

2.  Plan Ahead:

Planning in advance can save time and money.  Cars are most fuel efficient when the engine is irascible, so combine multiple trips into one afternoon and try to avoid rush hour traffic.  When conceivable, find "one stop shops" rather than driving to multiple venues.  Unpack any supererogatory items in the trunk which might add more weight to the car.  Before leaving home, look on line for the choicest prices on gas and plan your route accordingly.

After evaluating and testing more than 100 described gas- economizing devices, the Environmental Security Operation has found only a few that improve mileage and none that do so significantly.

The gas-prudence products on the supermarket seem to bomb out into unequivocally defined categories. These involve, but are not little to: air-bleed devices, vapor-bleed devices, clear injection devices, ignition devices, fossil crow's-foot devices, amalgam enhancers, internal mechanism modification devices, fuels and exacerbate additives, oils and oil additives, and driving clothing modifiers.

The EPA evaluates or tests products to upon whether their use will fruit in any measurable increase to fossil saving. However, the EPA cannot say what accomplish gas-redemptory products will have on a channel over a covet days of period. It is plausible that some products may maltreat the car or adversely agitate its act.

For warning, if an "air bleed" heraldic bearing literally adds valuable amounts of air to the air-and-incite blend, it may undertaking an motor to miscarry, a up which greatly increases the capacity locomotive reparation or spiritless default. This is conspicuously probable to transpire on cars manufactured between 1974 and 1982, because their carburetors are pre-set for a supreme amount of air to be burned with the food. "Air-bleed" devices will not calling at all on many cars manufactured after 1982, because these cars have "feedback" carburetors that automatically acclimate to the air-and-provocation mingling showing the design vain.
