PECO should show them the money
In theory, unconcealed relations is the art of minimizing harm to a reputation through subtle persuasion. In practice, it’s often the sloppy field of smothering crap with kitty litter and calling it a raw diamond.
Don’t get me wrong: PR is a tough job. Convincing people that wide-ranging warming (a.k.a. global climate change) is a myth, for instance, must be particularly grueling, exceptionally when you have to smile politely while reporters strafe you with questions.
But that’s a portrait of high-profile PR. The day-to-day effect to simple inquiries is what concerns me here.
Reporters know better than to expect a direct fulfil from a PR rep, even when the question is something as innocuous as “What happened yesterday?” Sometimes the answer is truly genius-boggling. Sometimes it’s so distorted that I find myself wondering if the person on the other end of the phone truly believes the nonsense (s)he is spewing.
