DALLAS – Borough council approved the bidding out of two separate stormwater infrastructure betterment projects Wednesday evening.
The first project will install stormwater drainage piping in the space of Norton Avenue and Spring Street. The area of the borough qualified for $100,000 from the Luzerne County Occupation of Community Development, or OCD. Borough Manager Tracey Michael Carr says the borough hopes to use all of this year’s OCD permit money on the project.
The second project calls for demolition of the Orchard Street go. Stormwater drainage piping will also be installed on Orchard Street.
Council voted unanimously on April 15 to bump off the replacement of the bridge in lieu of Federal Emergency Management Agency and Pennsylvania Crisis Management Agency-approved alternate projects. The bridge, which crosses Toby Inlet, was damaged during flooding in June 2006.
Carr said in May that FEMA and PEMA awarded $302,905 for replacement of the cross over, but in order to build and comply with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation requirements, $414,418 would be needed, estimates the borough originator. That cost would include engineering fees and a 10 percent work contingency, but the sum total would depend on bids received.
